One of my most requested things on Instagram is a makeup tutorial & an explanation of which products I use! I am first off, NOT a professional makeup artist, & admittedly a makeup snob about a couple of things & totally content to use drug store products for others. Example- I really only use premier & professional grade foundations like Estee Lauder, Laura Mercier, Urban Decay, Makeup Forever, etc. but I am 100% down with the Loreal Voluminous mascara or a Covergirl lip color. My opinion is that everyone needs to find what works for them, their skin type, skin color, & budget & then just go from there.
I currently have my makeup tutorial saved on my highlights on my Instagram page! If you want to view it, find me at @malloreemgray & click on the highlight that says “makeup tutorial”
Okay, I’m going to start from the beginning with which products I use & then go in order of how I use them! If you see something you want, click on the photo & it should take you directly to the website to purchase! Feel free to leave a comment if you have any questions or shoot me a DM on instagram.
1. Too Faced Primed & Peachy Cooling Matte Perfecting Primer:
I bought this not too long ago & I actually really love it. For a long time I was using the Smashbox Photo Finish Primer Water but recently decided to try something different. It smells like peaches & it really gives my skin an even surface to apply my foundation. I highly recommend & of course I always love Too Faced products!
2. Smashbox Photo Finish Lid Primer
I use this in the color “light.” I apply it to my eyelids & brow bones before applying my eyeshadow. This helps my eyeshadow stay on longer & keeps it from looking “creasy” or smudged.
MAKEUP SPONGES ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL. I REPEAT. MAKEUP SPONGES ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL. There is *nothing* out there quite as good as the BeautyBlender. It helps apply your makeup evenly & smoothly. A little trick I use is to dampen mine before using it to help the makeup glide on easier. It’s one of my most have products. I try and replace mine every 1-2 months.
4. TooFaced Chocolate Bar Eyeshadow Pallet
I do my eyeshadow first because I’m messy with it. If I do this first then it allows me to clean it up with my foundation & concealer. I love this pallet. I’ve been using it for several months now & rarely do I use anything else. One of my favorite things about it is that it smells like chocolate! I use the color marzipan on my lids, hazelnut in the creases, strawberry shortcake or white chocolate on my brow bone, & then black forest truffle on the outer corner of my lids. It’s a versatile pallet that can get you through all seasons & the shadows are very pigmented! I highly recommend.
5. Estee Lauder Doublewear Foundation:
This is hands down one of the best foundations I have ever worn. I wear shade AC7. I personally love full coverage, long wear foundation that covers all of my uneven skin tone & does not run with my oily skin & this Texas heat. I decided to try it after seeing so many rave about it & I am not disappointed. My other favorite that is comparable is the Urban Decay All Nighter foundation.
6. IT Cosmetics Bye Bye Undereye Concealer
This is the HOLY GRAIL of concealers. It covers EVERYTHING. You may wonder… “why does she put her concealer on after her foundation?” Well, I use it as more of a highlighter & brightener! When under your eyes is a little lighter than the rest of your face, it makes your eyes & face look brighter & more awake. I use the shade “light” & apply with my BeautyBlende under my eyes, down my nose, slightly on my forehead, & above my upper lip. This concealer is also anti-aging & waterproof! It’s seriously the best & I will not use anything else ever.
7. Tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Powder
I LOVE this powder. I’ve been using it for awhile now as a little goes a long way. It’s smooth when applied to the skin & I’m just an overall huge fan of Tarte cosmetics in general. I use the shade “medium.” I apply it around the edge of my face & contoured underneath my cheekbones. This summer I’ve been alternating between this & a bronzer I got in my Ipsy bag, but overall, this is what I use year round & like I said, it lasts a long time.
8. Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Kit (powder)
I don’t always use this but when I do, it’s for highlighting powder under my eyes before or after I do my blush to set my concealer and brighten my eyes. I don’t do this every time I do my makeup, so I’m not sure which “step” in the process I’d use it, so just adding it here! I do have the liquid contour pallet as well, but prefer the powder.
9. Tarte Amazonian Clay 24 hour Blush
I got this blush in one of my makeup subscription boxes & I absolutely LOVE it. Like I’ve mentioned, I love Tarte products & this one is no exception. I’ve received a few different shades in this blush but the one I use almost everyday is called “paaarty.” It’s a perfect pinky, mauve color that I can wear through all 4 seasons.
10. Tarteist Pro Glow Highlight & Contour Pallet
I received this in my Fab Fit Fun box at the beginning of the summer & I ABSOLUTELY love it. It smells delicious & doesn’t have any parabens in it, like other Tarte products, which I love. There are 6 shades depending on what you want to accomplish with it. I mainly use the two colors- strobe & champagne. I apply it just above my blush on the top of my cheekbones.
11. Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Definer Pencil
I’ve been using this brow product for 2 years now. I love that it is angled which makes drawing & filling in so much easier. There are a variety of shades to match what color you need. I use the color “soft brown.” The medium brown was WAY too dark for me! I will not use anything else on my brows. I’ve experimented with different brow pencils and this one is hands down my favorite.
12. Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
Another holy grail product for me. I’ve gone back & forth between this & the Kat Von D Tattoo Liner & this one is my fave by a long shot. Maybe because I’ve been using it for so long that I’m used to the brush, but either way, it’s my favorite. It doesn’t smudge easily & it is great for long wear. It glides easily & is very pigmented.
13. Loreal Voluminous Mascara
this is the best drug store mascara in my opinion & experience. I’ve used a few that were really good, but there’s just something about this one. It’s at an incredible price point & you can get it just about anywhere.
14. IT Cosmetics Superhero Lash
adding this one in because this is what I use most often. It does CRAZY things to my already long lashes. I first tried it in one of my makeup subscription boxes & bought it as soon as I finished the sample size. I’ve been buying it for almost 2 years. I love IT cosmetics products & this is my favorite mascara by far. The shade I use is called “super black.”
14. Urban Decay De-Slick Oil Control Makeup Setting Spray
I normally used the Smashbox Primer Water that I mentioned above as both a primer & setting spray, but I decided to use this to try something new and I’m so glad I did. I get really oily skin, especially in the summer, & this really helps keep my makeup staying on & looking fresh. I’ve been using Urban Decay products for quite some time now & can attest to their value. They’re worth their price tag! I hold the bottle about 6 inches away from my face & spray each side & then down the middle.
15. Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Longwear Lipstick
I’m not wearing this color in the makeup tutorial, but this is my most commonly used lipstick. I use the shade “Queen B” which is a perfect everyday mauve color. The lip color in the makeup tutorial is here & the color is LIPI-08 Bedtime Flirt.
I did want to add a similar eyeshadow brush set to one of mine here at the bottom. I have a hodge podge of brushes but I think they make all the difference in the world. I bought a Tarte brush set last year that has my favorite contouring & eyeshadow brushes. I would check out Morphe for affordable, quality brushes as well as Sephora. Good brushes can make all the difference when applying your makeup!
THAT’S IT! I hope you find what you’re looking for. Again, please check out the highlights on my Instagram for a makeup tutorial for one of my everyday looks! Hope you enjoy & thank you for reading along!
